Systems to follow.

Systems make life easier for the team to ensure they are doing everything they can for their patients.

But along the way I see a big failure in many systems when they are followed.

There is a lack of personalisation and empathy.

Just because you are using a system and making sure all the steps are followed, it doesn’t mean you should stop personalising and humanising your interactions and communication with your patients.

Remember your patient will leave your practice after their appointment remembering how you made them feel rather than noticing if you followed a system.

So let’s do both. Let’s follow our systems step by step while giving our patients the personal touch and a postive experience they will remember.

My recent yearly mammogram with Leanne the radiographer was testimony to that.

She knew what she needed to do to help me. She had her system to follow but the whole time during my appointment, she considered me in the process.

Leanne managed to reduce my waiting time, as well as the next patient, but at no point did I feel rushed or just another patient in the day.

There is an art in following a system and making the patient feel important and acknowledged. This art is a learned one that can be mastered with correct guidance practice and a desire to help patients.

Leanne had mastered the art very well.
