Did you know that most of us constantly want to know what the next step is?

We wake up in the morning wanting directions and goals.

This is the same when people call your dental office.

They are looking for directions, answers to their questions and what the next step is for them.

Of course, the next step is a solution to their dental problem or concern.

I know not everyone who calls your office has called you urgently needing help to fix a broken tooth, or a throbbing toothache, or a missing tooth that is freaking them out.

Many people call your office because they just realised, they have not been to the dentists for a long time, or they need a new dentist because they have moved home.

Whatever the reason and whatever their urgency and concern it has something to do with dental.

Everyone is looking for an answer to their questions, so they know what their next step is.

When you answer the calls in a dental office, this should be your focus.

To give every caller an answer to their questions and then a NEXT STEP to follow.

The best next step for all callers to your dental office, is to make and confirm an appointment time so the caller can come in, meet the dentists and go from there.

If this is the next step, then why are there so many calls that get turned into appointments?

The answer is simple.

The people answering the calls in a dental office do not know how to convert most of the calls to appointments.

I am sorry if that seems a little harsh.

But this is the reality!

No one has shown the team what to do and what to say on these calls.

The caller wants a next step and is waiting for you to suggest the next step to them, but if you have not got the communication skills to direct the conversation and suggest the next step, then the call ends.

Learning how to direct the conversation on a phone call by suggesting the next step to the caller, is a skill that can be learned and consistently used on every call.
