OK I am going to get straight to it. I hate even writing this word…..

DISCOUNT is the best way to kill your business.

You are asked for it and you may have even just given it.

So what is DISCOUNT and why do dentists continue to offer it to their patients?

  • Discount is the what you secretly offer to patients to get your patients to say yes to treatment.
  • Discount is what we give to your patients because you doubt your true worth of what you offer patients.
  • Discount is what you offer because you believe a patient will go somewhere else without it.
  • Discount is what you offer because you believe that your fees are too high and the dentist down the road has lower fees (even when you don’t know that for sure.
  • Discount is what you offer New Patients to get them in the door

Are you seeing a pattern here.

Discount is what you offer when you lack confidence in what you offer.

The sad part about offering patients discount is that most of the time the patient does not even expect it, does not want it and is ready to pay the fee you have set for treatment.

You may even be offering discount and not even know it by setting your fees too low.

I heard someone say this once….”there is only one way to go with discount and that is down.”

It is a race to the bottom and there is no winner.

If all dentists sat down and worked out an equation of what goes into the fees that you charge patients you may even put your fees up.

There are so many reasons why your patients come to see you.

It is a great idea to ask yourself this question:

Why do patients choose to come to your practice to see you?

What attracted them in the first place?

What keeps them coming back?

Start by knowing what sort of “Go To Dentist” you are.

I have worked with Dentists who are the Go To Gentle Dentist, The Go To Funny Dentist, The Go To Cosmetic Dentist, The Go To Patient Experience Dentist (That was my husband David!)

So who are you?

What sort of Dentist are you to your patients.

If you don’t know then neither will your patients.

Who really wants to be the Go To Discount Dentist.
