What is a First Impression, and what does it mean?

We all make first impressions.

I may be making one right now if this is the first time you have read one of my hundreds of blogs!

An example of a first impression, is when you meet someone for the first time.

This is when people are working out whether they like you, what they think of you and if they will want to continue having contact with you.

I know it sounds very ruthless, but this is how it is.

We can fight it until we are blue in the face, but that first impression you make with people, makes a lasting impression on them.

People will also remember whether it’s good or bad.

So, why not make a good First Impression all the time, no matter what?

Making a good first impression at your Dental Practice is how you get and keep patients, most of the time.

I know when your patient arrives at your practice, this is when they will meet your front office team for the first time.

Your New Patient will be checking out the type of comfortable chairs you have, working out if they like what you have hanging on the walls, and if your practice is clean and tidy, as well as what they thought it was going to look like.

Your New Patient is judging you based solely on what they see and sometimes hear and smell!

People judge

Let’s rewind for a moment. How did your New Patient find you in the first place?

They may have been referred by their family or friend, so they were judging you by the story they heard and then decided to choose you.

They may have seen an amazing piece of marketing you let loose on the world of prospective patients.

You may have crossed their path in their search for a dentist, or a sponsored ad, and found you this way.

or

They may have googled you and checked out your website.

Now, while I am here talking about your websites……….

Your Website

Your website is a place that does, and will start a prospective patient, judging you and deciding whether they like you and want you to be their dentist.

I have looked at many Dental Practice Websites over the years.

Let me share with you want I know to be true:

FACT #1: There is nothing sexy or attractive about an EMPTY DENTAL PRACTICE OR TREATMENT ROOM.

Sorry I had to use capital here.

I see so many pictures of Dental Practices showing off their empty chair in the patient lounge and treatment room.

My question is…..

Where are your patients?

People want to see people!

FACT #2: People are attracted to people.

So, get some people in your social media and website pics and ALL of your marketing.

Your prospective patients is looking for someone to identify with so they can see your practice is a match and if they see someone they can relate to…….bingo!

FACT #3: Stop hiding your team

Your team are the people who your patients will initially relate to you.

Most people see the dentist as the higher authority, and yes, they do want to see you, but your team will always be initially more relatable to your prospective patient.

Include fun info or a bio for each of your team and yourself, with their permission of course.

People will read something that creates a match for them. It can be as simple as, “Oh she enjoys hiking like me.”

Immediately your prospective patient will be thinking that they will be able to talk about hiking when they come in for their appointment.

Have a good look at your marketing.

This is the very first contact with your prospective patient, so you do want to attract them and start the ball rolling with that very first impression.
