Setting goals is the key to the success of every business and every individual in your business.
Reaching practice goals is how we best help our patients.
I talk to teams all the time and it doesn’t take long to see those that lack direction at work and are just going through the motions.
One of the best ways for your team to have direction is to be totally clear about what you want them to do, how to do it, when to do it and why they are doing it.
Be clear about your expectations and set the goals needed.
Your team need to know what you expect when:
- A new patient calls the office
- A patient makes an appointment
- A patient calls to cancel their appointment
- A patient makes their next appointment
- A patient has no next appointment
- A patient is late for their appointment
Each day you want to ensure your team have their day planned.
- Appointment times that need to be filled
- A set number of follow up calls to be made
- Administrative work
- The type of patients visiting the practice
- The type of treatment to be completed
- How is the appointment book looking for the next week?
Don’t start the day with your team arriving and just starting work, having lunch and leaving at the end of the day.
Have a plan and goals for each day.
Make the day have substance and purpose.
People crave direction and a clear next step.
This goes back to when we started school and just wanted to know what the teacher wanted us to do. Once we knew what was expected of us, we could get started, we were confident, ready, and worked at getting an excellent result.
As adults, this is exactly the same.
As people working in a Dental Office, this is exactly the same.
Working towards an excellent result is about having those outcomes and goals that we are working towards.
We need that measure so we know we are achieving what we have set out to do.
Once your team know your expectation of their role at the practice, they will set goals and reach for the stars.
Along the way your team needs to be consistently nurtured, encouraged and acknowledged when they achieve great results.
This alone is so worthwhile.
Your team will make the difference.
