The definition of excellence is…….

the quality of being outstanding or extremely good.

Excellence is about being hungry and wanting it.

It is about believing you can do it.

Excellence is achieved with a plan and learning from those who have the level of excellence you are wanting to achieve.


The question I often get asked, is how do I get my team to be excellent at work?

As an educator and trainer, I see dental teams achieve excellence by staying focused and continually and consistently following what is working for them.

But what often happens is there is no consistency and so the excellence is never quite achieved.

Why do dental teams stop doing what is giving them such good results?

This does not make sense!

Dental teams stop doing what is working because they are never made accountable for their results and then gradually over time, they stop doing what was working so well.

No one is checking on the team’s progress and no one is holding them accountable.

This is why, people have coaches or someone to check in with. We all need ACCOUNTABILITY to help us strive for EXCELLENCE.

What you need to do, once your team are achieving excellent results, is to set up accountability to ensure these results continue.

Many dental practices shy away from making their team accountable.

I hear dentists say, “I don’t want to add any pressure to my team.” “I don’t want them to leave?” “They are ok, they know what they are doing.”

When you are wanting excellence in your dental practice, this is what you must demand and the people on your team should be ready to step up and shine and be accountable for their part in your business.

Striving for excellence in your business will sort out the people on your team who do not want to do this and attract the people who do.

Accountability is the willingness to accept responsibility for your actions.

You only want a team around you who get this and want this.

When your team have a clear understanding of their role at the practice a plan to follow and accountability for their results, then this is when excellence is achieved.

It sounds simple, and it is once you know how to and you have set it all up.

Make 2021 the year of EXCELLENCE and accountability.
