You must make the first move when it comes to connecting with your patients.
What are you waiting for?
Don’t wait for an invitation.
“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” – Dale Carnegie
The person on the phone has already chosen to call you so start connecting with them.
Now, not everyone wants to connect, well not straight away…
There are signals that let you know when it is ok to start connecting.
You probably already know the signals or you will start to very shortly.
Start asking questions to the caller that show you are concerned and do care.
You do need to be genuinely concerned.
People just love this and they know when you are being fake!
Listen and let the caller talk.
The best connection is made while you listen and care.
People will remember that you cared for a long time after the call.
You want to ask really great questions that open your patient up to talk, talk, talk and talk about what they are concerned about.
Making connections with patients does come naturally for many people but not for everyone.
Learn the questions to ask and you will soon start making great connections with callers.
We are sometimes afraid to get close to our patients.
Start changing this.
Getting close means your patients will trust you and let you help them make decisions with them.
After a while you soon discover that your callers fall into various groups of people and once you determine the group they are in, then making connections will become easier.
If connecting with people is something that you find challenging then practice outside of work.
Focus on connecting with people and before you know it, you will be a natural.
Without a connection it is an uphill battle to develop trust and expect the caller to become a long-term patient.
Enjoy connecting with your callers. You won’t regret it!
